at the movies

l to r:queen latif; woody's new flick; sarah jessica

LAST HOLIDAY
i'm not a fan of queen latifah
but i will see the movie for the following reason

i can't remember the last time a Black woman starred in a movie and was NOT:

(a) a drug head
(b) physically or verbally abused by an angry Black man
(c) weighed down by a pack of kids
(d) a prostitute
(e) fucking billy bob thronton

MATCH POINT
when will we realize
british men will NEVER find american women irresistible?

THE FAMILY STONE
i like sarah jessica
her petite frame makes her male scene partners appear robust
reminds me of old hollywood pics with judy garland and doris day

piss

i'm writing this entry from a stupid "hotspot" at starbuck's
ugh
i have to uncover a plan for (cheap) internet service
i was stealing it for 6 months via a wireless connection in my apartment building but have been recently blocked out
which explains why i'm here now
i have a few minutes left on my service plan so i decided to post something

xmas was cool and wonderful
ate a lot, drank a lot, and slept little (three components of a successful holiday, yes?)
NOW i must prepare for new years
it will prove to be a monumental task but my outfit is almost complete
yes, it's a theme party
&
yes, i'm still excited about it
i'll be hanging out with a krew that's known for debauchery and unpaid traffic tickets, so look out

clearing of the throat

i have nothing to write today
really just killing time until i can catch a ride home

even though i have so many random thoughts pass through me, they all seem to be out of reach when i come to type an entry *sigh*

i was checking out saul williams and carl hancock rux's website
2 gentlemen who are amazing artists and good peoples

if you don't know who they are, you should go here and here

also greg tate wrote an AMAZING tribute to richard pryor that talks about--among other things--the ingredients of a Black genius.

My favorite quote:
What's been lost in the Faustian nigga bargain is that fearless, breakneck do- or-die-for-the-art-and-The-People ethic Pryor and Miles and Nina and Jimi and Marvin brought to the Culture—that quality of tortured, intrepid, and successful Black genius looking into an abyss that winked back before they laughed, then leaped into that mother, spearfishing for pearls. Lauryn Hill, D'Angelo, and Dave Chappelle are as gifted, charismatic, and sharp as any who've come before, but you get the sense they'd all rather just be crazy than be the kind of crazy about your art that has you drop a That Nigger's Crazy, Bicentennial Nigger, Is It Something I Said?, or a What's Going On, Let's Get It On, and Here My Dear in rapid succession.

private yearning for public affection

so
my website is struggling BUT it won't be that way for long
it will come together. it must come together.

not sure why i'm completely obsessed with building the site
but i might as well keep on doing it
i'm starting to believe this project is my "field of dreams"

also, i'm very close to signing a piece of paper that says i must complete a draft of a play to be considered for production by a wonderful theater. i'm excited, but terrified. more info will come on that tip at a later date.

and for the first time EVER, i'm writing two plays at the same time. one for the theater and another for a completely separate event
it may not seem like a noteworthy feat, but it's a big one for me.
most of my projects have popped out relay style.
this is my first duet.

. . . such a cryptic entry today

wtf (pt.2)

as a level headed straphanger who has taken the time to read and inform herself about the MTA/TWU standoff::

i'm for the union
i'm not as terrified and frustrated by the prospect of a strike

come what may monday night, i'm down for the cause

12.15.2005

wtf!!!

as a helpless and bewildered straphanger:

what the fuck is going on in that conference room??

bloomberg has the nerve to tell people to "get creative"?

why is mta being so stingy? and had nerve enough to have a budget meeting this week?

why would the mta want all of this to go down during the height of tourist season?

what about all of the poor folk who don't have the means to take a cab or car pool?

and why don't i, as a tax paying new yorker, have any say so in this matter? didn't i, along with millions of other straphangers, contribute to this surplus? shouldn't we have a voice in that room?

i don't want a strike! i want these people to get shoved in a conference room that locks from the outside until they come up with a deal.

if these mofos didn't have the luxury of lunch and bathroom breaks, i bet you they would be quick to come up with a deal.

at the j-o-b

i'm typing this entry from a vacant office space located in a midtown firm.
it's friday. i'm exhausted. and will soon travel to time cafe to celebrate the kick-ass achievements of a soon-to-be-former co-worker.

i'm way excited it's friday night.

things i plan to do this weekend: sleep, go to the gym, write something phenomenal, buy snow boots, get a haircut, and shake my ass to some good ol' fashion hip-hop.

definition

so what's this blog shit about?

it will become a warehouse that holds miscellanousness. i can't carry all the random (and absurd?) thoughts, ideas, rants, mysteries, inspirations that sprout up. so, i will leave them here.

where does "i have mastered the art of . . ." come from?

a poem-in-progress. it will appear soon
